A Berkshires Winter Engagement Session at The Clark Art Institute, Williamstown MA

As a Berkshire Wedding Photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many love stories, but there are certain sessions that stay with me long after the last shot. One of those was with Kierstan and Kyle—an incredible couple who have been together for ten years. When they reached out to me about their engagement session, I knew it was going to be something special. Not only was it their first time having professional portraits taken together, but they chose a location that meant a lot to them both—The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown.

A Decade of Love

Kierstan and Kyle’s love story is one that has stood the test of time. They’ve been together for ten years, and it’s clear from the way they look at each other that their bond is incredibly strong. It’s funny—while they’ve spent all this time together, this was their first-ever photo session as a couple. It’s so often the case that couples don’t take professional photos during their relationship’s early years, but when it’s finally time, the result is always worth the wait.

Kierstan shared with me that she had been following my work for a while, and when the time came for her to start planning her engagement photos, she couldn’t wait to reach out. She said she “fell in love” with my style, and honestly, hearing that humbled me so much. There’s nothing more rewarding than having couples trust you with such an important moment in their lives.

The Clark Art Institute: The Perfect Backdrop for Art Lovers

What makes this session even more meaningful is how deeply Kierstan and Kyle are connected to art. Kierstan studied arts management in college, so when we started planning the shoot, we knew we needed a place that spoke to her passion. The Clark Art Institute, with its incredible collection of works by Monet, Rembrandt, and Renoir, was the perfect place to bring their vision to life.

We couldn't have asked for a better setting—snow-covered grounds, quiet paths, and stunning architecture. The winter light had a special way of casting long shadows and creating a romantic atmosphere, almost as if nature itself was adding to the artistry around us.

Kierstan’s Favorite Painting: A Personal Touch

One of the most personal parts of this session was Kierstan’s connection to one particular painting at The Clark: "The Smoke of Ambergris" by John Singer Sargent. Kierstan had always been drawn to this piece, and it meant so much to her to have part of her engagement photos taken in front of it. I love that we were able to incorporate that piece of her into the shoot. It’s moments like these that make engagement sessions so special—they’re not just about posing for pictures; they’re about telling the story of who you are as a couple. And for Kierstan and Kyle, art is such a big part of their story.

What made this even more meaningful was the fact that Kierstan and Kyle actually have a copy of "The Smoke of Ambergris" hanging in their own home. This piece has become a part of their everyday life, a reminder of their shared love for art. To capture them in front of this painting—both in the museum and at home—was incredibly special. It’s those kinds of personal touches that really elevate an engagement session and make it unique to the couple.

As we stood in front of Sargent’s masterpiece, it felt like the perfect representation of their love: refined, timeless, and full of beauty. I made sure to capture the quiet moments between them, framed by the painting, so they could always look back on the day and remember the depth of their connection, not just with each other but with their shared love of art.

A Truly Special Day

The session itself was filled with so much warmth—despite the chilly winter air, the love between Kierstan and Kyle kept things cozy. I loved watching them interact so naturally, as if I wasn’t even there. It’s always my goal as a Berkshire Engagement Photographer to capture the real, raw emotions between couples. With Kierstan and Kyle, this was effortless. The way they laughed, the way they looked at each other—it was all so genuine. They made my job easy.

From the stunning architecture of The Clark to the quiet, snow-covered paths we walked, every moment felt like a piece of art in itself. The location wasn’t just a backdrop; it was an extension of their story, a place where their past and future could come together beautifully.

Grateful to Be Part of Their Journey

I can’t tell you how humbled I am by the experience of working with Kierstan and Kyle. When I think about why I do what I do, it’s moments like this that remind me of the true meaning behind my work. Being able to document such a significant time in their lives, to witness their love in such an intimate way, is something I never take for granted.

Kierstan had told me she had been dreaming of this moment for so long, and I was honored to help make that dream come true. Engagement photos are about more than just looking good in front of a camera. They’re about capturing the essence of your relationship, your connection, and your journey together. I hope that every photo we took will remind Kierstan and Kyle of this magical day and the love they share.
